Films: The Hollow (2015)

Summary: Halloween is a nice go-to for those who are planning on making a horror movie. Add that to an isolated small town, and you have yourself a perfect combination of scenarios where everything can go wrong. Of course, you'd better hope your actors are up for it. But when in doubt, just make a cool monster.

History: On Shelter Island, no one is particularly looking forward to Halloween. You see, a curse was placed on this land long ago, one that allowed a horrible hollow monster made of wood and fire to come into being and kill everything for one day. A few survivors who didn't get the memo in time are soon left to fight for their lives before the break of dawn, lest the hollow thing kills them.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After killing all but two, the hollow creature has them dead to rights in the woods. However, it is tricked into staying up for too long, and the new day's sunlight causes it to dissipate into cinders. Presumably, the monster is dead forever.

Powers/Abilities: Invincibility, the ability to change shape according to how much the vines all over him can travel, vine traps.

Weakness: Conventional means can slow it down, but it takes keeping it up until after Halloween is over to kill it for good.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Once again, the CGI for a Syfy monster isn't going to win it any awards. However, what puts the hollow creature a step above many others is its sheer presence. This thing is a walking pile of burnt sticks with a face like a psychotic jack-o-lantern, and its whole body is brimming with fire that will often erupt from its mouth. Also, it could be anywhere, and few can hope to survive when it catches you.

Trivia: -If one looks closely at things, Shelter Island is a total sham. The prices for diner food are way larger than they have any right to be (17 dollars for a burger?!), and the main map is just one of Guemes Island, Washington.

-There don't appear to be any tales of demonic trees in folklore that the monster was based off of, but it does bear some resemblance to a Dryad, a Greek female forest spirit often described as being associated with trees. Albeit this one is a lot more demonic.
